Reception will feature full cash bar, passed hors d’oeuvres, hot and cold stations, live music and an art display featuring artwork by Trauma Center and Justice Resource Institute Staff, including Bessel van der Kolk, Fran Grossman and Joel Kershner.

Evolution of a Field and & Lifetime Achievement Awards , Smith Hall

Hosted by our Founder and Medical Director, Bessel A. van der Kolk, M.D., the central portion of the evening’s proceedings will include reflections on the evolution of both our Center and the field of traumatic stress over the past twenty-five years, a vision and call to service for the next quarter century, and acknowledgment of pioneers in this work, both present and in memoriam. Four lifetime achievement awards will then be bestowed upon individuals who have been pivotal in transforming access, delivery and quality of care to traumatized individuals and communities. Awards will be presented to

  • Senator Edward M. Kennedy for his many initiatives on behalf of victims of trauma and adversity, and most notably his critical role in the inception of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network
  • Judith Herman, M.D., for her lifetime of essential contributions in the realms of clinical research and practice advancing our understanding of the impact of traumatic stress and pathways to recovery
  • Frank Putnam, M.D., for his pioneering research in the nature of dissociation and the longitudinal effects of incest on girls
  • Richard Rhodes, author of A Hole in the World and numerous other books, including The Making of the Atomic Bomb, which won a Pulitzer Prize in Nonfiction, a National Book Award and a National Book Critics Circle Award

Entertainment with Dessert & Coffee, Smith Hall

Live entertainment will be provided by Eli’s All-Stars, featuring Bob Winter of the Boston Pops on piano, Bo Winiker of the Winiker Orchestra on trumpet, Dan Fox of Made in the Shade on trombone, Jimmy Mazzy of Jimmy’s Last Minute Men on banjo and vocals, Ted Casher on clarinet and tenor, and band leader Eli Newberger on tuba. http://www.elinewberger.com/music.html.
