Developing Trauma-Informed Services for Families Experiencing Homelessness: An Interactive DVD and Guide

This interactive training DVD and manual is an educational resource for service providers. This training package focuses on the relationship between homelessness and traumatic stress and how to apply trauma concepts to providers' daily work.
Specific educational goals include understanding:
- The relationship between homelessness and trauma
- The nature of traumatic stress and the human stress response
- The effects of trauma on people's lives
- Developing trauma-informed responses within shelter settings
- The impact of vicarious trauma and the importance of self-care.
While this training package is designed for homeless service providers, the concepts taught are also applicable for milieu and residential trauma-serving settings.
Development of this product was funded by a National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative Grant awarded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to the National Center for Family Homelessness between 2003 and 2007.
