Workshop: Trauma-Sensitive Yoga in Therapy: Bringing the Body into Treatment

Description:Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TSY) is an evidence-based adjunctive treatment for difficult to treat PTSD or complex trauma. This workshop is for clinicians, mental health care workers, and any other professionals who work with traumatized people in any environment who wish to bring aspects of TSY into their treatment milieu. Along with a brief overview of trauma theory participants will learn practical TSY techniques that they can begin using immediately with their clients. Please note that you do not have to be a yoga teacher to understand and utilize TSY.
About the Presenters:
David Emerson is the founder and Director of Yoga Services at the Trauma Center at JRI where he coined the term, "Trauma-Sensitive Yoga". He has taught workshops on the topic around the world and has coathored articles on the subject, including the first study looking at yoga for complex trauma published in June, 2014 in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. Dave is also the coauthor with Elizabeth Hopper of Overcoming Trauma through Yoga and author of Trauma-Sensitive Yoga in Therapy: Bringing the Body into Treatment.
Elizabeth Hopper is Program Director of Project REACH, which serves victims of human trafficking throughout the United States. Dr. Hopper received her Ph.D. from Saint Louis University and completed her Clinical Psychology internship at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Hopper has conducted national outreach on traumatic stress and complex trauma, focusing on cross-discipline training. She provides trauma-informed consultation in homeless shelters and to community-based clinicians. Dr. Hopper is currently a staff psychologist and supervisor at the Trauma Center.
